Entering a Show

When entering a show you just have to choose the event to have found to be their favourite, and choose their showing level or circuit/show level. (This will be displayed on the horses page) Then you can click ‘go’ and search through all the availiable shows for that event and level. When you have found the show you would like to enter it’s just a simple matter of clicking the button to enter and then filling in the rider options. If you’ve entered the correct event your horse’s odds – which are displayed after you have completed your entry – should say ‘Excellent’ when you click on the link to view how they will do.

A Guide to Successful Showing

[Written by account #61584 (English Register)]

This is probably the most important thing to do if you want your horses to improve.  Entering a show is easy, the button to get to the showing page is on your account. It’s a blue, square button that has a light bulb on it. It even says ‘Enter Shows’ for you.  But entering a show isn’t just a simple matter of choosing and entering a show, well, you can do this but if you really want your horse to succeed in showing there are a few simple things you can do to improve your results.

Tack

Buying the best tack helps. Being a non-upgraded member means you can’t get store specials but you can still get rank 10 tack. Tack your horses with this and it will aid your horse in its show. Of course you can’t guarantee the results will be better, because different people have different horses and many will have been training for longer than you if you are new, but keep at it!

Feed

There are different qualities of feed, for example, hay is of poor quality, whereas mixed feed is the highest rank (Rank 20). Buying the best feed possible is likely to help in showing, but its results vary. Some newer members may find that some of the better feed is a bit out of their price range because they already start out with a small amount of money. It is better to buy several hays first then the mixed feed because it will last longer and have the effects of the better quality food.

Treating

The effects of treating horses everyday has been debated as to its effects on a horse, but many take the view that you can’t really lose anything if you do treat, if it helps then it’s worth it.

Vet & Farrier

A healthy horse is going to show better, a basic fact. Horses that are of poor quality health won’t be availiable to be chosen to show anyway, but if they are in great condition it’ll most likely perform better than if it were in poor or fair condition. Getting them checked out doesn’t cost much, and if you do them when needed chances are you won’t have to do them the next day. A horse's health is at it's "top" when it is at 78% on the horse's page, and 100% in both vet and farrier on your main account page. The best vet "practice" is using the $1,000 Complete Physical, and the farrier "shoeing" is using the $500 Four Hooves Shod. Using these will help you to usually only have to vet/farrier once a week instead of everyday. Sometimes using a tonic will help to boost the horse's health back to 78% when both Vet and Farrier say "This horse looks great!" and the health percentage is low.

Rider Options

They help your horse to ride better, and you too. You wouldn’t do well on a horse if you rode him with too long reins and the horse didn’t like that in a real show, and the same applies on White Oak Stables. Finding out your rider options can be fairly simple, many members can just tell you them, but getting a lesson from an upgraded member is best. The rider settings are according to the horse's best event and personality.

The rider settings are used on the page when you enter the horse in a show. This page has eight drop-down menus under the horse's name. You may find more information about this in the Rider Settings wiki.

Best Events This is important for you to realise. Each horse on White Oaks Stables has a natural best event. This is the event that a horse will prefer, and probably perform best in. Of course you can change this event, by training them in another via the training options on a horse’s page, but training lowers the horse's health and does nothing to help the horse. To find a best event for a horse you need to enter them in a show, and view the odds. Keep entering shows until you find the show that gives your horse the odds ‘Excellent’. Alternatively you can use an odds chart, some of the more experienced members have these on their pages. You look at the row with the event that you just entered your horse in, and then go along until you find the odds you got for that event. Go up and see the event that that is under, and you have found your horse’s best event.

Clothing The same as tack, wearing higher ranked clothing helps in shows. To put on your clothing is simple, you just have to go to your account page and go on the ‘Clothes Closet’ button (The purple one with the clothes hanger) and if you’ve bought some clothes from the store you can go to the bottom of the page and go ‘Auto Clothe’ and this automatically puts you in the highest rank clothes you have. You will need one of each type of clothing to be able to enter a show; you can’t really ride without your clothes on. The same applies to tack; you have to have at least one Saddle, Bridle, and Bit etc. Click the words to find the best clothing and tack.

Filler Any horse used as a filler CANNOT be entered into daily shows through the regular means. To change a horse from being a filler, or to change a horse to BE a filler, go to the horse's page. Scroll down to between the records and buy feed link. You will see this:
Show Filler If you choose to use this horse as a show filler it will randomly be entered into stable shows and daily shows. You will not be able to manually enter it into shows and you will have no choice over which type of shows or what settings are used to ride the horse in those shows.

Click the "go" link to make a horse a filler, or to remove it from being a filler.

So to improve your horses, have a go at entering them in a show now and again. Most people do this about 4/5 times a week if they’re serious about the game, some even do it more. But it helps them get higher ranks and raises the sum of how much they’re worth.

Happy showing!
