Mood

This is a good indication of how your horse is feeling right now. Generally a horse's mood can change two or three times a day. Horses that aren't in a good mood before a race can be expected to fall short as they race down the backstretch. Horses in a bad mood before a show will often act out and lower your judging marks.

Try to keep your horse in a good mood by taking it to the vet, farrier, and caring for it regularly. If you don't rest your horse between races or shows then you can expect that your horse's mood won't be at it's best. Letting your horse have enough time to recooperate between competitions is a sure way to do well. On the other hand, if you let your horse have too much rest it can become over-excited and do poorly as well. Coming up with a regular training and competition schedule is a good way to keep your horse healthy and happy.
