How can horses be rescued?

Rescuing happens and is needed when an owner either quits the game, or takes a very long vacation away from the game. When the person does not play for a long period of time, no matter what the reason, his or her horses' health will go down.

A horse has to be at -140% vet or farrier to be rescued, and/or they have to be at -14 days feed. Health does not really have anything to do with it. Especially when feed is involved.

Many the misconception is made that when the horse is at 35%, then the horse can be rescued. If the owner continues to ignore the horse, then the health goes down as does the feed. The health can be at absolute 100%, but if the feed goes to -14 days, then the horse can be rescued. If the horse has 100 million days of feed, but the vet AND farrier health is -140%, then the horse can be rescued.

Other than the general health percentage on a horse's page, a player cannot see what the total percentage is of any horse that is not on their own account. Therefore, if you want to rescue a specific horse, it's best to check on it every day - preferably after the daily shows have run. That way you'll know the next show day has arrived and the game is reset for the next day. If a horse is continually in poor health, it usually takes 2 weeks for the health and/or food to get to this stage.

How do I rescue horses?

Rescuing a horse is an easy process, finding a horse to rescue is a little more difficult.  Sometimes the horse has *dying* by its name when it can be rescued, but it's a very rare thing anymore due to the fact that many players visit the horses they know to be dying.  If you want to find a horse that needs to be rescued, personally visit the horse's page to see if it can be rescued. When you get to a horse that needs to be rescued, you'll see a button below the vet/farrier messages. Just simply click this button and you have successfully rescued the horse! The game automatically sends the horse to your account IF you have room and you'll see the horse's name at the top of your main account page. Click on the horse's name and start to get it healthy.

There's a stable/player who has not been active, but their horses are fine. Why?

There are various reasons for this, depending on the account type.

If it is a basic player account, another player could be taking care of the horses for the player that is away.

If it is an upgraded account (stable account), the likely reason is that the stable owner has turned on "away account".

One of the benefits of an upgraded account (stable account) is that there is the option to "turn on away account".

This means that if the owner knows that they are not going to be playing, they choose this option and all their horses stay in the same condition as when the feature was turned on. The horses will still age, but healthwise condition and available feed does not change.

So I have rescued my first horse, now what?

Now go to your account and click on the name of the horse you just rescued.

  • Make sure horse has enough feed. Give it hay a few times until it no longer has negative days of food and then buy it mixed feed. This usually costs $900 - $2,000.
  • Go to the vet and give your horse a check up for a complete physical. This usually takes two or three $1,000 vet visits.
  • Go to the farrier and get your horse's feet trimmed and shod. This usually takes two or three $500 farrier visits.
  • Health tonics do not work on rescued horses so don't waste your money on them.
  • The total cost of rescuing a WOSE horse is typically around $6,100 but horses that are really sick can cost well over $10,000.
  • Until your horse is back to health another member can rescue it from your account. For this reason you need to vet, farrier and feed the horse right after you buy it to prevent someone else from rescuing it from you.

When can horses be rescued?

Rescuing happens and is needed when an owner either quits the game, or takes a very long vacation away from the game.  When the person does not play for a long period of time, no matter what the reason, his or her horses' health will go down. Normally after two weeks a horse without any care will be available for rescue.  Eventually the health will be so bad that another player has the option of rescuing the horse.

How do I rescue horses?

Most people will just randomly find horses for rescue when looking at a horses pedigree or foals, however another option is to check horses of a certain breed and grade at a time. Another way is to search for trainers or stable owners who have been away for a week or more. Finding a trainer or stable owner who has not been on will be the best way of finding horses to rescue. When on a horses page, if the horse can be rescued a button will appear under the horses pictures saying: "rescue this horse".

There's a stable/trainer who have not been active, but their horses are fine. Why?

There are several explanations. Firstly if it was a stable you could, a trainer could be looking after them and vice versa. The other reason is that the stable owner has a racetrack. One of the benefits of a racetrack is that there is the option to "turn on away account", this means that if the owner knows that they are not going to be playing, they choose this option and all their horses stay in the same condition to when the feature was turned on. The horses are not paused as they will still age, but health wise condition does not change.

So I have rescued my first horse, now what?

Now go to your horses page and click on the horses name that you have just rescued. Now that you have the horse YOU have to get it back to health. When I get a horse that I just rescued I do the following things.

  • Make sure horse has enough feed, water and it's stall has been mucked out.
  • Groom the horse
  • Get vet and pay for them to care for your horse until it's no longer sick
  • Get farrier and pay for them to treat the horse's feet until they are healthy again
  • Race your horse. This will give it more of a chance of being sold if you want to sell it.
  • Typically rescue horses should not be bred because they don't race well enough to have children.
  • Until your horse is back up to health any member can rescue it from your account. For this reason you need to treat the horse right after you buy it so someone else doesn't rescue it from you.
