T-Shirt Contest!!!
5.6.2008First off I want to thank everyone who showed up for the spring chat parties. We had a blast! I gave out 3 free upgrades, a ton of game credits, t-shirts and 5 million dollars to one luck member (thanks for donating it EE!). Even if you missed out you're gonna get a chance to win a FREE White Oak Stables T-Shirt.
A few weeks ago I posted about a T-shirt contest but I didn't get any entries. So this time I'm going to be more decisive about it. WE NEED ENTRIES!! The lucky winner will get a T-shirt with THEIR DESIGN ON IT! That's right, the contest winner will get a WOS T-Shirt with their very own picture on the front.
Contest Details (Entries Due May 30th by Midnight)
In order for this to work your entry must be a .png, .jpg or .gif formatt. It should be a very LARGE file, that means the dimensions should be at least 400 x 400 but BIGGER is a better option. Your entry can be a photo, a manipulated photo, painting, drawing or anything else you can send me in image format. HOWEVER, IT MUST BE YOUR OWN ORIGINAL WORK!! I can't put anything on a T-Shirt that you didn't make yourself. If you want to do photo manipulation you must have permission from ALL the photo owners before you use them.
The logo MUST HAVE whiteoakstables.net somewhere on the image, otherwise what you put on it is completely up to you.Contest Judging
All entries will be judged on three things: creativity, presentability, and quality of the image. Make sure you don't use pictures that get blurry if you try to make them bigger. Those don't look very good on a T-Shirt.Posted by: Jade@whiteoakstables.net

Your Voice Can Make A Difference
4.23.2008Hey guys, this is SUPER important, we only have a few days!! A Virginia Senator, Mary Margaret Whipple, will be voting to BAN HORSE SLAUGHTER. Her vote may be the difference between it passing or failing. Everyone thinks, "well it doesn't matter if I write in, or call in, one person's opinion doesn't make a difference." You're wrong. Everyone has a voice, and it's going to take all of us -- every single horse lover -- to get rid of horse slaughter. Now I want you guys, ALL of you guys, to write to her and tell her we need her support to stop the unnecessary murder of thousands of our beautiful four footed equines.
Her email address is: district31@sov.state.va.us.
If you feel compelled to you can call instead (with a parent's permission!): 703-538-4097 or 804-698-7531.
Here's the entire email from the Animal Welfare Institute:
National Conference of State Legislators to Consider Resolution Opposing Federal Ban on Horse Slaughter
Dear Humanitarian:
The Animal Welfare Institute has learned that the National Conference of State Legislators, due to meet in Washington, D.C. later this week, will consider a resolution in its Agriculture Committee urging the United States Congress to block passage of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (AHSPA - H.R. 503/S. 311). The AHSPA is an important animal protective measure that will prohibit the slaughter of our horses here or abroad for human consumption around the globe.
The resolution, which has clearly been shaped by the pro-horse slaughter lobby, is chock full of misinformation and scare tactics designed to unnerve legislators at the federal and state levels from taking action to prevent America’s horses from going to slaughter. Its passage – if it does pass - will be used to press our legislators into allowing the continued slaughter of our horses at the hands of a cruel, predatory and entirely foreign-owned industry.
The “resolution or policy statement” refers to the “Horse Welfare Coalition” which was founded and is currently run by the slaughterhouses and consists of only pro-horse slaughter organizations such at the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners and American Quarter Horse Association. Be sure to let these legislators know that well over 500 horse industry groups and leaders, equine rescues, veterinary organizations support the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act along with the majority of Americans. http://www.awionline.org/legislation/horse_slaughter/supporters_of_ahspa.htm
If you are a constituent of one of the following state legislators listed below, please email them TODAY and ask them to oppose any resolution at this weeks’ National Conference of State Legislators that would hamper efforts to protect America’s horses from the brutalities of slaughter.
Here are some facts about horse slaughter: http://www.awionline.org/legislation/horse_slaughter/faqs.htm Be sure to share this AWI eAlert with friends, family and others, and urge them to email in opposition to any resolution or statement opposing the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, too. As always, thank you for your help!
For the latest updates on this bill and AWI’s campaign against horse slaughter be sure to visit http://www.awionline.org/legislation/horse_slaughter/whats_new.htm every day.
Thank you,
Chris

The first one will be on the night of May 2nd, the second will be really early on the morning of May 3rd and the last will be around mid afternoon of May 3rd. That should give everyone for all different time zones a chance to come and participate in the fun.
What is a chat party?
A chat party is where we have fun and games in the chat room. We have trivia, games, and I give out a TON of free WOS prizes including FREE upgrades!!!

Starting April 19th I'll be accepting entries for a White Oak Stables T-Shirt contest. All entries are due by May 19th. We need a new logo for our White Oak Stables T-Shirts that you can buy through cafepress.com. So, instead of me making the new logo I'm asking you guys to do it! Your logo will be put on the White Oak Stables T-Shirts for a month or more so other people can buy a WOS shirt with your design on it.
The WINNER of the contest will get a FREE T-SHIRT with their OWN LOGO on it!!Contest Rules

New Newspaper Managers!
3.29.2008Thank you to all eight applicants! Yes, that's right, only eight?!?! Where you interested in working for the newspaper on the english or racing register? Then you should have applied! Shame on you!! Okay, now that I'm done scolding everyone, the new newspaper managers are:
English: Oak Ridge Farm
Racing: Valley View Stables
Congratulations to both of you and good luck during your terms as our newspaper managers!Posted by: Jade@whiteoakstables.net
Racing Register Races
3.22.2008Okay, so I know a bunch of the 13th races didn't run because of the domain problem we had. I'm going to reschedule them for the 24th either today or tomorrow. If you still have a horse in one of those races then you may need to scratch them if they're signed up for something else on the 24th as well. I'm not sure why a few races didn't run on the 2nd. I'm going to delete those so scratch your horses if they're still in any races on the 2nd.
I'm not exaclty sure why some of the races have been messing up lately. The only thing I can think of is that they're timing out because there are so many races running at a certain time. If you're making races please try to vary the time that they run, don't just make them all run between 2 and 4pm. That should help some. Thanks guys.

Sorry!
3.13.2008Hey guys, we had some domain issues (as you noticed). Sorry about that!

Newspaper Managers & Special Shows
3.11.2008First of all specials shows are up. Make sure you enter, especially for those of you trying to win both legs of the mini cup. Good luck to all entrants!
It's that time of year again. I need new newspaper managers. If you're interested in taking the job please fill out this application here. Deadlines for applications is March 29th, 2008. Thanks to everyone who applies.Posted by: Jade@whiteoakstables.net
Special Shows & Mini-Cup
2.18.2008Okay! Trying to get things back on schedule. This month is way too short and it's even a leap year. Ever wondered how to tell if it's a leap year? It's easy! If the year is divisible by 4, and the year is NOT divisible by 100, then its a leap year. Or, if the year is divisible by 400 then it's a leap year. Can you figure out when our next leap year is? I bet you can :)
So I have special shows up for the english register and I've fixed the special races in the racing register. Both english and racing register specials will run on the 29th of February. To make up for missing a special race last month I'll be adding in two special races next month and we'll have a mini-cup. It will test horses over 8 furlongs and 11 furlongs. If your horse can win both races (first place at both distances) for its grade then I'll give you an extra $100,000 bonus. If your horse can take top three (win, place or show) in both races then you'll get a $25,000 bonus.
Happy training!Posted by: Jade@whiteoakstables.net
Happy Valentines Day
2.14.2008Hey guys! I hope you're having a great valentines day. If you haven't sent someone special a card then don't worry you can always send them an e-card. Hallmark is one of my favorite places to go for an e-card but there are a ton of them out there.
I'm working on getting the special shows back up. I've had a few emails that the January shows or races still haven't run. My computer recently died on me and has to go into the shop so I can get online at school between classes so give me a few days to get everything worked out. So I haven't forgotten about you but that's why I haven't been in chat lately.

URGENT: Help A Horse Rescue!
1.26.2008I know every single one of you who plays White Oak Stables loves horses and would do everything they could to help a horse. Well now someone, a member of WOS for more then 4 years, needs your help.
One of our member's families runs a local horse rescue, Bits, in Linden PA and it's in danger of closing! In order to stay open they need to raise $3,000 to help them continue to rescue and rehabilitate the animals we love so much.
Is there anything you can do to help them raise money? Donate $1, $5, $10, or any amount you can. If you can't afford to donate then help spread the word, talk to your friends, local vets or even a member of your family and see if they'd be willing to help out.
All donations should be sent through the Bits website using the contact link. Thanks for anything you can do.

Saddle For Sale
1.22.2008Hey guys. I know this is a shameless plug but here it is! I have a 17" Wide Kincade Close Contact saddle for sale. It's a great saddle, really comfortable but it doesn't fit my horse. I'm really sorry to see it go because I like it so much. It's been used about 10 times, broken in but very little wear.
I'm asking $300 or best offer. If you take it I'll even throw in 2 FREE upgrades or one for you and a friend, 1yr Blue Ribbons or 1yr Racetracks or 2yrs on one, whatever you want them to go. That's a value of $50.
Here's some photos, click them to view a bigger image. Let me know if you're interested.

Racing Register Resets
1.11.2008Whoops! It looks like I forgot to reset the starts, and wins, etc for the racing register this January (and I think last June also). So today I reset everyone's starts, first, seconds, thirds, etc as well as their earnings. This means everyone will have a fresh start on the game spotlights that features stable owners, trainers and jockeys.
Also, I've changed that game so it will automatically make these updates January 1st and June 1st of every year. That way everyone can start on equal terms every six months.

Dec. 24th Riddle: A reindeer travels the same distance every day. Oddly, two of its legs travel 30 miles each day and the other two legs travel nearly 31 miles. It would seem that two of the reindeer's legs are one mile ahead of the other two legs, but of course this can't be true. Since the reindeer is normal, how is this possible?
