Using Excessives, Capitalizations and Chat Speak March 4, 2013 09:56:34 AM
The Proper Use of Excessives
We all become excited every now and then, and some more then others. None the less, rest assured that regardless of your sentence ending in !!! or !!!!!!!!!! your readers are all reading at the same octave. When posting in excessives, its usually read as screaming and when you're trying to read a post full of excessive characters, not only does it get annoying but it gets really tiring. Further more, it makes the poster seem really juvenile. Please try not to use too many excessives. I think three repeating characters is acceptable. Any more than that and it's too much.
Repeating Characters is defined as:
Any character, such as punctuation or smileys, in clusters of 4 or more. For example, stretching out a word: "Whaaaaaat?"
Abuse of Repeating Characters is defined as:
Clusters of characters which are spaced throughout a sentence or paragraph in such away as it abuses proper punctuation. For example: "I!! Just!! Got!! A!! Horse!!"
Proper use of Capitalization
Posting in all caps is also read as screaming. Again, not only does it get annoying after a while, but it really makes the reader feel as though they are being shouted at, which will make them defensive. When posting in all caps, please be sure to keep these things in mind:
1. You may use words in all caps under certain conditions. For instance, if making a Guide, you may separate your points or topics in Capitalized Letters.
2. You may also stress the IMPORTANCE of a word, or use word abbreviation in Capitalized Letters, such as OMG.
3. You may also capitalize ONE word in your Title when you are posting a new thread.
Anything more is, I believe, completely inappropriate posting conduct.
The Use of Chat Speak
I wish to encourage proper grammar and punctuation in all of WOSe members. As I recognize our members come from all walks of life, I firmly believe we can help one another understand each other better, which ultimately promotes easier game play, if we take the time to type out our words. Remember chat speak, or text speak as it was originally called, was created because you used to be charged by the letter when sending a telegram. As this is not the case here, there is no need for it. This is only a suggestion, but please be kind (especially to us older people who don't understand txt tlk) and not use chat speak.
