Help! I can be a breeder, but now what?

(this article was written in response to a number of requests)

A breeder helps breed two compatible horses to each other. Members can breed their horses on their own, but as a breeder, you can help give newborn foals an edge with extra points and rank.

You may not give yourself riding lessons, or enter your own shows, however, you CAN use your own breeder function. You do not need to move your horses, or be on another account to use your own breeder!

How do I find myself? I mean, there is a button on a stable page to find lessons, the stable, the journal, but nothing for breeders. So now what?

Anyone, including you, who wishes to use a breeder must go through the main menu to the breeder link. If your name doesn't show up on the original list, click on order by random until it does. If the stable has a lot of breeder centers, you can select order by space. As most have 5 or 10 spaces, they won't be on that list, though.

You MUST have both the mare and the stallion on the SAME account. Whether it is your breeder or someone else's. You cannot breed Mare123 on account 89888 to Stallion567 on account 67898. Both horses must be the same breed or an allowable crossbreed on WOS for the breeder to be able to breed them.

Requesting? This is simple. After you click on a stable name, it asks for the mare you wish to breed. Select and click on breed, then you get a page to select the stallion. Again, select the correct horse and click on breed.

Breeding?

Ok, now I requested myself, or maybe another player has. What do I do? Where do I go?

Click on the Stable link from your main account page.

Click on Breeder which is the top left button on the stable page.

If you have more than one breeding request, work from the top of the page to the bottom, or your breeding pairs will NOT work. If someone has requested you to breed more than one pair of horses, ONLY THE TOP or first pair will work. You will need to decline the others AFTER breeding the first pair. If you decline one - all from that account will be declined, at the same time.

Ready to breed a pair? Right click on the name of the mare, and select open in new window. Do the same with the stallion (you need this information). When the mare's page opens, write down or note the personality. Do the same with the stallion, but the mare information comes first.

On your original breeding page, click on breed under the horse's names and the name of the account requesting.

The next page will NOT have any information about the mare in the pair! It will ask 3 questions:

1. Exercise time (choose a time - 1 hour, 45 minutes, 30 minutes or 15 minutes) Personality affects how you answer all the questions, and it is a matter of trial and error when you first start.

2. Feed - you are overriding the horse's regular feed and choosing special feed for before the breeding.

3. Type of restraint - you select which restraint or none you think would be best for that horse.
click on the submit button, then you will do the same for the stallion (so check his page before you go further!)

1, 2, 3, stay the same, but now you have a 4th button, where will the horses meet for the first time.

4. Select an introduction area.

Then breed your horses, by clicking on the breed button.

You will NOT get a vet's page when you use a breeder.

To get an approximate rank and points with out breeder - you look at the mare's page, and the stallion's which should still be open. Add the mare's rank to the stallion's rank and divide by 3. Keep track. When the foal is born in 3 days, you will be able to determine how much your foal gained (or lost) with your help.

Secrets to being a better breeder:

1. Keep track of the choices you made based on gender and personality of each horse.

2. Keep track of your gains and losses.

3. When you have less than satisfactory results on a pair, adjust a little when you get a horse or horses with the same personalities.

4. When you have good results keep track so you use the same choices on the same gender and personality in the future.

5. The most any foal can gain according to the game rules is 500 points or 5 ranks.

6. The most any foal can lose according to the game rules is 50 points or 1 rank.

7. -- Both have been proven false. Foals have lost up to 3 ranks and 300 points with 'bad' choices. Foals have gained points over 500 - for example one pair I did for Morby gained 529 points, and no it wasn't an addition or subtraction error. The rules can be broken.
