The Face-Off
How I Defeated Mara Jade
*
by Fyoraa Meringo
~~~~~~~
I’ve hated her ever since I first laid eyes on her. No, no, no. I didn’t hate her at first. At first I was afraid, afraid she’d come between me and my dashing Luke Skywalker. Then I became angry when she started making moves on him to draw him away from me. Then I burned with a hatred so hot it could melt Mustafar. Now she was to be the one suffering.
Her name was Mara Jade. A beautiful name for a beautiful woman. She was very attractive, I won’t deny that, but she was an agent of evil. The Dark Side swelled around her, and if she lured Luke to her, it would be the end of the Jedi, and of our relationship. Yes, I was jealous. I was very jealous. I hated her! The only thought on my mind was that I must stop Mara Jade.
We met in an airspeeder hangar on Coruscant. Nobody cared about what business we had, they just left us alone. I was armed with the lightsaber Luke had helped me make. She was armed with some type of ancient Samurai sword.
Easy, I thought.
“Back down, Mara. It’s no use,” I said. “You’re defeated already.”
I hit the activation switch on the saber’s hilt, and the bold blue blade shimmered to life. I swung it and sliced effortlessly through a nearby pole, proving my point. Mara took two steps backward, then gave me a taste of my own medicine.
“No, you back down, Fyoraa,” she said, brandishing her sword. “Luke is mine.
That was all I needed. Anger and hate coursed through my veins. I charged toward her, and she put up her blade in a defensive pose. One swipe and that poor excuse for a weapon was divided in two, the smoldering halves thrown to either side of the hangar.
“You can’t win, Mara,” I sad coolly.
Her face reddened with indignation, and I smiled to myself. Then I brought my brilliant blue blade around and sliced through her shoulder, leaving her crippled and defenseless. She dropped to her knees, sweat beading on her forehead. I stood over her, my idly waiting lightsaber humming musically.
“You are beaten,” I said. “It is useless to resist.”
I walked around her, the blue shaft of light buzzing dangerously close to her head. Mara looked up at me, her eyes glowing devilishly red. Everything about her said I hate you. You will not be the one to marry Luke; I will. Then she just sat there, as if awaiting a blow. Anger rushed through me, quickly followed by hatred that burned hotter than it ever had before. My breathing quickened and my muscles tensed. And I dealt that blow.
That was the end to Mara Jade.
Author’s Disclaimers & Notes:
Luke Skywalker, lightsabers, Coruscant, and the like all belong to George Lucas and Lucasfilm Ltd. I just borrowed them. Oh, and Mara Jade belongs to the dirty dog author who created her.
***
The name Fyoraa was inspired by Neopets.com, which is home to a Faerie Queen named Fyora.
***
Everything else belongs to me.
NOTES:
I was inspired to write this short story after I read an EU (Expanded Universe) article on StarWars.com about Mara Jade. I got so angry, I just wanted to do away with her. So now I got a chance. Don’t be mad with me. I was also pretty bored when I wrote this, but I thought I did a good job. Also, “Fyoraa” is pronounced “fee-ora.”
Thanks for reading.
